excited to watch this one. sam sat down with the guy who wrote "unreasonable hospitality"
He owns eleven madison park, the restaurant that inspired the Forks episode on the Bear, one of my favorite TV episodes of all time.
As a founder, stealing from other, unrelated industries is a huge hack.
In internet businesses, we suck at hospitality. So if you go from a 2 to a 5, you're better than everyone else.

this works for companies too
instead of trying to be a genius and do something new to grow your company, first ask: “what are we doing that’s stupid as hell, that we should just stop doing?”

"There's riches in niches"
My brother in law has built a $1B+ real estate portfolio focusing on grocery-anchored shopping centers.
he doesn't really do podcasts, but I convinced him to do one explaining how he:
- made his first million as a broker
- lost it all on a bad deal
- starting over, building a 82-gym chain
- making $3M on his first deal using a purchase option
- compounding that into $1B+ over 10 years

Honestly, huge opportunity that top universities are not insta-accepting teenagers who have already built multi-million dollar businesses from their bedroom
Whoever can build a high status place for them to go - gets to swipe the most valuable/high agency talent

Abigayle (17 yr) - grows flowers, sells them
Last year: $15k revenue, $7-8k profit
This year, aiming for $30k
Our advice: instead of selling to schools for fundraisers, can you get real distribution? It doesn't hurt to try - send cold emails to the CEOs / owners of Ace Hardware etc.. use your story
Sometimes it's easier to 10X a business than 2X + you'd be surprised how far cold emails can get you

Ayaan (14 yr) - 9th grader. bakes cookies and sells them to local restaurants/shops
Also a competitive chess player (big green flag)
Last year: $4k revenue
This year, projecting $25k
But.. his pricing is too low. no margin to hire people
His Q: how to hire without screwing up profits or quality
Our answer: Don’t "Grow Broke"
Gotta raise prices! + try selling to clients who are less cost consicous and use your puppy dog likeability (eg. car dealerships. tell your story on local news, etc)

Lincoln (18) - turned gutter cleaning into $30k profit
Ayaan (14) - baked his way to $25k revenue
Abigayle (17) - grew a $15k flower empire

one trend I’ve noticed after doing podcasts with 100+ super successful guests… “side quests”
example: Sheel in this podcast talks about:
1. quit his job to live in india for a year on $1/day budget
2. hacked google ads to get uber credits
3. flew to china on a whim to find a factory that would make iphone headphones
4. became a food delivery driver as due diligence, and used that insight to start a $100M+ food delivery startup

"We did the math on how much money per employee YC in theory should drive and I think we’re something like 20ish million per year per employee in terms of market cap value created in the world. And that’s just the carry, that’s our take. In terms of value created for our limited partners, I think it’s closer to $100m per year per employee.” - @garrytan
