@tylertringas “Airtable (UI) for Postgres” is the biggest missed opportunity in SaaS right now, because horizontal products need an evangelist, visionary CEO and to date Howie Lu is the only person to realise that airtable (relational db for the masses) is a category not a product.

- Up and running in 3 minutes ("gem install editmode")
- Full content management backend including rich text.
- Works with react & rails (so far)
Only caveat is it's invite only for now.

@patphelan Not what you asked, but one of the best things I did for sleep tracking was switch from Apple Watch to Withings. Found it too hard to charge every 2 days. Withings is every 30 days & feels much nicer than the apple watch to wear https://t.co/Bkf0bax7ad

⓼ There are 3 places to encode the information needed to understand and extend a piece of software.
1. In people's heads
2. In documentation
3. In the tools we build with
(2) is obviously much better than (1), but as an industry we need to spend much more time thinking about (3)

To elaborate: In many industries, the more you produce of something, the cheaper it gets. In software the opposite is true. If we consider the efficiencies that come with digitisation to be a force for good (which I do), solving this problem is extremely important.

⑦ Obvious to insiders, maybe less so for outsiders: Most modern web software is some remix of a very small number of concepts. Software engineering is, and increasingly will be, about *configuring* much more so than *building* https://t.co/ptdZScN0Fu

⑥ As a general rule, standards and tooling that increase robustness, decrease beginner-friendliness. Because this fact almost never enters the discussion around industry-wide tooling adoption, the barriers to entry to getting started building web software get *higher* every year

⑤ Having a software production process that resembles an assembly line is not something to be proud of. The beauty of software businesses is that they’re dynamic. Atoms can’t be instantly rearranged at zero cost. Bits can. Don't build an assembly line.

One of the downsides of the twitter outrage machine is that, because the ratio of trolls to genuinely principled outspoken people is so high, people can no longer tell the difference between the two. Software & diseconomies of scale - "Much of our economy operates on the assumption that when you spend more you get more per unit spending. If software was sold by the pint, a 4 pint carton of software would not just cost 4x the price of a 1 pint carton, it would cost far more." https://t.co/FfHpm6ZseQ

RT @tonyennis: 1. Technology allows startups to scale super-linearly.
2. Technology team productivity scales sub-linearly.
I keep thinking…

Catalina connectivity bugs (bluetooth and WiFi) have rendered my mac unusable. Giving up after 3 hours of frustration. Never seen software this buggy, incredible by Apple’s standards. What is happening to them?

This is healthy. My experience is relationships with zero conflict are prone to collapse in the long run. I’ve seen friends go years with no arguments only to have the friendship break beyond repair under the weight of all that went unsaid. Relationships should be anti fragile https://t.co/LGWYMLujzb

The average developer environment scores very low across each of these. Huge opportunity there. https://t.co/lxzG96TLIz

Conversely, those who feel others’ feelings too strongly can form very narrow views, closing themselves down to other perspectives, often which may often advance their cause. Particularly in a rapidly changing, interconnected world full of unintended consequences.

This is super impressive, Love this level of ambition — @arcurn closing $3m from some of the world's best investors pre launch is a huge vote of confidence in a young Irish entrepreneur. Can't wait to see the product. https://t.co/RasGRjtesd

I keep thinking about: Why are there so few people working on (2), and what kind of advantage would that give a post product market fit team. https://t.co/oHEvBieuqR

@thomasauros It is in the shortcuts app after upgrading to iOS 13. I actually haven’t set anything up yet, just saw it this morning. Am I missing something?

@andreasklinger I'm building exactly this. Have seen it described in various ways on twitter but this is the closest anyone has come. You have any further thoughts on how you think it should work/features?
