Apr 20 5. Realise the solution has become it's own problem. Scrap the solution entirely. 6. Return to step 1 and repeat the cycle (also common: someone comes along with a “new” solution and also repeats the cycle). https://t.co/qKaKrBUnVo 0 0 0 0 231 .
Apr 19 “One should have strong/weak opinions” Not having opinions on things limits recall. What you’re ambivalent toward will escape your consciousness. But landing on a positive/negative judgement is like a stop sign - it halts your train of thought with limited information. 3 0 0 0 271 .

Apr 18 @webdevMason @danielgross Fucking around with npm earlier it struck me as quite plausible that tens of thousands of potentially great future engineers never make it past that stage and are lost forever. 0 0 0 0 202 .

Apr 05 @eriktorenberg Similar, or perhaps the same phenomenon: Saying "let's do it this way in future" is received as "you did it wrong". So much mediocrity goes unchanged because people don't want to tacitly admit they may have been doing it sub optimally to that point 2 0 0 0 263 .

Mar 08 @visakanv @ehn @neo4j @GraphQL Have another Singapore trip coming up, perhaps we could brainstorm it then? If we don't miss each other again. 2 0 0 0 141 .
Mar 08 @visakanv @ehn @neo4j @GraphQL I was actually reading this, thinking "I would help build this for Visa". I'm working on a similar idea for myself at the minute (categorising interesting curated content - tweets, books, podcasts, articles) in an airtable and building a UI to link and browse them 2 0 0 0 295 .
Mar 04 One thing I've realised about @RevolutApp is that they really don't see customer support as an important part of their offering at all. Now waiting 5 days to get access to my account. Twitter support v slow, but the only way to get in touch. This on their "metal" plan 👎 https://t.co/tIb2fCle3H 2 1 0 0 294 .
Mar 03 @visakanv Haha for me this is Harabara and Lobster. They're awful, but absolutely everywhere 2 0 0 0 92 .
Mar 02 Anyone else having @RevolutApp issues? I was logged out and can’t log back in. Messaged support thinking it was my fault but their response leads me to believe they’ve frozen my account. Anyone seeing anything similar? 2 0 0 0 218 .
Feb 28 @ellenchisa @paulbiggar ennis.tony@gmail.com, thanks! 0 0 0 0 53 .
Feb 28 @paulbiggar @ellenchisa Sweet! Hi @ellenchisa! I'm advising on a few from-scratch projects currently - presuming these make the most sense for Dark. Would love to try it out for them, or even just play around myself with personal projects. Promise I'll give great feedback 😁 1 0 0 0 274 .
Feb 28 @paulbiggar While I have you Paul, when can I use the beta? 😬 pretty please! 0 0 0 0 76 .
Feb 28 @paulbiggar This line is pretty relevant here. As a manager, that’s a huge plus, a horizontal scale enabler and force multiplier. For a lot of engineers, I’d guess It’ll be seen as a sacrifice — something which holds people back from learning new skills and tools. https://t.co/x6LnuoLGoN 0 0 0 0 288 .
Feb 28 The biggest shift in my thinking since then is that I’m not entirely sure the backend version should be marketed at engineers. Engineers like complexity - this will be an incredibly strong, potentially immovable force. If something like this fails, I’d bet that’ll be a reason why 0 0 0 0 280 .
Feb 28 Just found some notes I scribbled last year - I got super excited thinking about a tool which would combine backend (e.g dark) & frontend (e.g Modulz) tooling. On reflection there’s an infinite amount in both, makes sense to specialise. 0 0 0 0 240 .
Feb 28 This was the previous thread I mentioned https://t.co/ZLsojD6gAd 1 0 0 0 64 .
Feb 28 Last year I tweeted about "A small group of people fundamentally changing a discipline" in regard to the new generation of frontend tools springing up. Dark's ambition is even larger, and from reading this manifesto, very close to spot on the money. Can't wait to try it https://t.co/Bll0A9d1wR 1 0 0 0 294 .
Feb 28 @maccaw We've done a lot of work on very similar stuff it seems (90 person B2B org, post PMF, using OKRs & Notion/Asana to manage the company). If you don't manage to get the blog up, would love to spend an hour comparing notes - I'm sure we could learn from each other. https://t.co/Ii9ULxDqPM 1 0 0 0 298 .
Feb 23 I think *misled* is probably a better term here than manipulated. 0 0 0 0 65 .
Feb 21 Most people don’t mind being manipulated at system 2, even if they’re ultimately aware of it. It occurred to me that people might dislike being manipulated at system 1 because it’s then obvious to others that they’ve been manipulated, and they look bad. 1 0 0 0 253 .
Feb 19 I've only read about 60%, but it's remarkable how much of the advice put forward here maps almost directly on to building a large software product. https://t.co/IG0HR5LqUu 2 0 0 0 171 .
Feb 18 https://t.co/apUqTewVg7 1 1 0 0 23 .
Feb 01 @mahemoff @benedictevans Get your point. Perhaps “real” was the wrong choice of term. Point was that excel was designed for numbers, as photoshop was designed for photography. And thus was/is very bad at what it ended up being used for. 1 0 0 0 236 .
Feb 01 @EdLatimore Related https://t.co/OCXDJ8YeTM 0 0 0 0 43 .
Feb 01 @benedictevans Excel’s *real* use case is for numbers. That’s a long way from being unbundled by a web based product - too computationally heavy. Airtable is to excel what Sketch was to Photoshop - a replacement for a use case it was never really good at in the first place. 5 0 0 0 274 .

Jan 21 Is there a platform that connects vetted 1-(wo)man MVP builders to people who want to get an MVP built? Strikes me that the economics would work (cheaper than an agency) and be worthwhile for freelancer if expectation is explicitly MVP. cc @levelsio https://t.co/9rmymhBJaK 10 1 0 0 273 .

Dec 29 @bentossell There’s a crowd online that will do the processing for you. There’s a little desk at the airport for Visa on arrival where they can also do your photos. Went twice last year - second time I only realised at boarding gate, rang the online crowd and they rush emailed the letter 1 0 0 0 288 .
Dec 26 Back in Dublin for 14 days. Two of them have now been ruined by @GoCarIreland . Second time walking to pick up a car which then won’t open or start. Customer support is non existent. Great when it works but an absolute nightmare when it doesn’t. https://t.co/UFxdIfotla 2 0 0 0 269 .

Oct 04 The Lisbon deal is no surprise to anyone close to them. @WebSummit is undoubtedly of the most successful Irish startups, especially considering it’s largely bootstrapped. I enjoyed this take by @connorpm that they're a tech company in the events industry https://t.co/mPtGaZwfbX 17 4 0 0 278 .
Oct 04 In 2015 I got another call, coincidentally from another equally persuasive Irish Patrick, this one with the added ask of relocating to Asia. Were it not for my previous experience at Web Summit, there is no way I would have agreed to that leap. Yesterday we raised our Series A 5 0 0 0 277 .
Oct 04 In retrospect our collective hubris and naïveté was pretty incredible. I can’t count the number of mistakes I made in that period. But being given the space to make them was crucial. And that unbridled optimism gave people the belief they could do anything. Exhibit A: https://t.co/8fgLZa4ona 12 0 0 0 292 .
Oct 04 One thing that doesn’t surface often is the opportunity that’s given to young people at @websummit. Those given most responsibility early on were in their early twenties, most of whom are now doing amazing things off the back of that experience. 19 1 0 0 245 .
Oct 04 That turned out to be one of the biggest decisions I ever made. It has since shaped my life in so many ways: My career, my mindset, my personality, my skill set, my network, and most importantly my close friends. 3 0 0 0 212 .
Oct 04 Some of my friends couldn’t really understand why I’d pack in my own startup to join a small events company with 15 staff (at the time Web Summit was one event with 5k people). The simple answer: Paddy told me “We’re going to build something huge” and I believed him. 6 1 0 0 267 .
Oct 04 In 2011 I received a call from @paddycosgrave asking me to come to the @websummit office for a chat. I had just begun my own startup journey so had no intention of joining, but was curious so took the meeting. 3 weeks later I’d agreed to become their first tech hire. 39 4 0 0 267 .

Sep 25 Watched this for the first time a few months ago and have probably rewatched every week or so since then. Raw absurdist creativity, vulnerability and authenticity that feels like a new, more self-aware genre of standup comedy. Love it https://t.co/I2vXHpqGXy 1 0 0 0 258 .

Sep 07 People see “insecurity” as a binary, or sometimes a spectrum. I think a more accurate mental model is one of *areas of insecurity*. A good way to spot your own is by looking out for the things you don’t like to be given advice on. 5 0 0 0 230 .
Sep 07 Love the visualizations @levelsio has been putting out over the past while - very powerful what you can do with a strong data set, a good imagination, and knowing how to use the tools. You and @MaxCRoser should collaborate 😉 https://t.co/jn0Joc1WUy 1 0 0 0 248 .
Sep 04 @rivatez Interesting Lens. I think being vulnerable previously happened in a private context. Now that people live their lives in public they tend not to distinguish as much between their public/private selves & go one of two ways: Be more publicly vulnerable, or less privately vulnerable https://t.co/qqG8VzrJoG 1 0 0 0 317 .
Sep 03 @TheAnnaGat @tylercowen This is very much the message in The Courage To Be Disliked, if you haven’t read it - also the most transformative book I’ve read this year. HT @AustenAllred 5 0 0 0 181 .
